UPS and The Postal Service
Have you seen the newest commercials UPS is airing? I actually liked them. Check out the campaign here. The guy’s hair is too long and the background music was familiar. Turns out the featured song is by a band called “The Postal Service”. I thought this was a little ironic and quickly realized that I was not alone in my observation. Its not too often that I actually follow up on a commercial I see on TV so UPS must be doing something right…
Interesting that we have such different reactions to those spots. Admittedly, I’ve only seen two, but I thought they were undwhelming because they were so simplistic that I thought maybe they were directed at grade schoolers. The executions didn’t take advantage of the television medium and felt like a slide show. The music, I have to admit, I didn’t even notice. I was too busy wondering if the spokesguy was Jackson Browne. Maybe the simplicity is startling and memorable to some, and just boring to others.

Dislike these ads! The dude completely creeps me out, and cannot figure out what type of image he is supposed to exude. Is he supposed to be senisitve pony-tail man without the pony-tail? I don’t get it. All I can focus on is what a poor casting decision someone made.
