Why no ShopSavvy on iPhone?

Is that ShoppSavvy on an iPhone? We had assumed there would be an iPhone version of ShopSavvy in the App store long ago.  Our assumptions were wrong.  While ShopSavvy has not be rejected, it hasn’t been accepted.  After weeks and weeks of waiting, our current plan is to pull the current version from consideration and upload a new version next week (in line with our new Android version 3.0.  I am not exactly sure why Apple would resist inclusion of ShopSavvy in their store, but I wonder if it has something to do with our relationship with T-Mobile and Google. Of course the iPhone camera simply doesn’t compare with the variable focal length camer on the G1.  This means ShopSavvy’s live scanning feature doesn’t translate to the iPhone.  Does anyone have any ideas?  How can we get Apple to give ShopSavvy a chance on the iPhone?

Some days I think I’ll get an iPhone, other days it’s the G1. Then I read things like this and it makes me cringe to think I am considering going with Apple. Their closed platform and approval process can be so frustrating.

You’re missing an ‘a’ on camera for the first entry

My guess ShopSavvy was rejected because ShopSavvy would display competitors in a search result. If a user scanned the UPC of a CD for example, ShopSavvy would display all the stores that carry the CD. In this case, iTunes would be cut out of the picture.

While you are waiting for Apple to get a clue, post ShopSavvy on Cydia, the excellent alternative to AppStore for those with jailbroken iPhone (meaning you can install apps not signed by Apple). Many iPhone users I know jailbreak their phones because of great apps available on Cydia.

Kind of old post, but I have an idea of how to get around this. Can you do a recognition of the numbers? This way, instead of scanning the barcode, it can scan and recognize the numbers. After all, there is only one 1, 2, 3, 4…and it would only have to recognize 0-9.

I also agree with the Cydia idea while Apple decides what it wants to do. As much as I love my MacBook and iPhone, let’s face it. This is a company that is keeping The Beatles off of iTunes because of a contract stipulation (of course this is the Readers Digest version of the story, but come on…IT’S THE BEATLES!)
