ShopSavvy for Blackberry or Windows Phone 7

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2606/3919725550_9dc701e3c5.jpgWe began collecting email addresses from users who were interested in getting ShopSavvy on Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry. In fact, if you like, you can request a notification when either version of ShopSavvy is available (AND request to be included in the Beta period) here:

Since we began accepting requests it has been interesting to note that Windows Phone requests have beaten out Blackberry requests two to one. This is despite the fact that Blackberry devices out number Windows Mobile devices more than two to one. That got me thinking, why don’t Blackberry users make more requests than WinMo users? I began asking every Blackberry user I meet, “What is your favorite app?” More often than not the Blackberry user won’t know what I am talking about. If they do know about Blackberry apps, and again this is a very small minority, they explain to me that they have very little memory capacity – most tell me email takes up all of the space on their phones. When I press the folks who don’t know about apps they have no idea how to get the app store on their phone. As RIM attempts to target a revamped Blackberry at iPhone users it will be interesting to see if our numbers trend differently.

WebOS users (users of the Palm Pre & Pixie) love apps. We know how to get them from the App Catalog. I’m ready to BETA test the Palm webOS version.

Perhaps many people have Blackberries which are locked by their company, and they’re unable or not allowed to add applications to them…

People buy Windows because they want it. People have Blackberries because they’re given them by corporate.

    Maybe.

Either way – don’t let these results slow you working on a blackberry port!

I thought ShopSavvy for BlackBerry was supposed to be released in May or June, not start asking for beta testers. No disrespect intended; I just thought I read that before. I’ve been waiting a long time since I read that and now, still nothing :-(

Dunno why you guys say windows mobile 6.1+ is still in beta. I have emails from one of your developers saying it’s only a week away from being finished, but you guys decided not too due to “lack of interest”. Which doesn’t make sense since you just mentioned how there are more people interested in the WM version than Blackberry meaning interest is there obviously.

  9. @jamessq There is a long thread of posts about Windows Mobile that you must not have seen. We are very interested in releasing a Windows Mobile version of ShopSavvy. Check out this latest post:

That is great about WM. Unfortunately, Windows 7 isn’t out yet and everybody here is interesting in WM 6.1 and 6.5. Will that ever be released?

If we told you ScanLife, would that get the blackberry version released any faster? :)

Start Me Up is my favorite bb app because it makes things work the way they should – like google voice client – because why on earth would you want it to start so you can receive SMS messages automatically?

So many BB apps don’t work well or at all – so the user base hasn’t become obsessed with apps like others. Doesn’t mean that there aren’t users waiting for something worth while to install and use and love.

CitySourced is something I just found – looks like it could be one of those lovable apps for the corporate bb types, as I’m sure yours will be when it is ever released.

My opinion is that if you build it (a blackberry app) they will come- as word gets out.

My guess is that the reason that you aren’t getting the same number of requests for blackberry is because most blackberry users (that I know at least) get their phones from work. I don’t know anybody that bought a blackberry for use as their personal phone. Since there isn’t a legacy of “appitude” associated with the blackberry we aren’t conditioned to search out apps- I’m used to using my bb for email and calls- thats it. I only recently started making use of the apps– which unfortunately lag considerably in terms of selection vs. the iphone etc.– but I’m not about to buy a second device and carry it around just for apps.
