It looks cool! Unfortunately, I have Windows Mobile 6.5 so this will be of no use to me. By the time 7 comes out, I should be on Android by then.

Agreed – looks cool, but I thought you guys were working on a Win 6.5 version. Is that still happening?

We wrote about 6 posts on the whole 6.5 debacle. Fortunately, Microsoft reached out to developers who, like us, got caught up in the whole 6.5 mess to convince us to develop for Windows Phone 7. They have been providing LOTS of support. To be sure Windows Phone 7 is in its infancy and a lot of questions still remain, but we are pretty excited about this new OS. Excited enough to bring on dedicated resources to ensure ShopSavvy is uniquely customized for WP7.

Will 6.5 ever get released? Maybe. We considered releasing it under a different name. Supporting an app like ShopSavvy (i.e. one that connects to the camera) on 6.5 devices from various manufacturers is a nightmare. On some phones it works pretty well, but on others it is slow and on others it crashes. If we could release without having to worry about 80% of users being pissed at us we would…

Just go ahead and put a .cab file on your site so some people can try it out. I mostly use a BlackBerry now-a-days, but still have my Samsung Omnia II (i920 with 6.5) and use it for a lot of things. As most WinMo users will tell you, we are not like iPhone and for that matter Android users that will cry all of the time if something goes wrong. Most of us have been around before the days of “App Stores” and having apps run perfectly and having the option of support. We would download .cabs from multiple sites and if it didn’t work, deal with it. Please take my advice and trust me on this one. Thanks.

If SS for WinMo 6.x is such a loser, why give us the option to sign up for a 6.x beta? Obviously there won’t be one, but the natives will be a little less restless, right?

  6. @JVID Well, as TD requested we may release a .cab file (perhaps under a different name) with the code for ShopSavvy on 6.5. We have a pretty big list of people who want a 6.5 version (they are very vocal). I wouldn’t say SS on 6.5 is a loser – instead I would say the way handset makers handle the camera on 6.5 makes ANY app that uses the camera a loser. If the MFGRs had simply followed Microsoft’s rules it would work great.

Windows Phone 7 is going to be extremely successful. I can live without 6.5 and I can wait for the the new phone. We waited this long. Another few months more won’t matter. This phone will be great because of ShopSavvy and other quality programs now being developed for the new phone. You may lose a point for dropping 6.5 support but gain mega points for joining the Windows Phone 7 party, Congrats for making the right move.

This looks great! Looking forward to it on Windows Phone 7. Sorry I don’t have a 7 phone to beta it on, but did sign up for 6.5 if you ever go there.
